 Travel the world virtually with your family. Visit top museums from the comfort of your own home. And discover some of the best FREE learning websites that are out there for your kids.

Virtual Travel/ Field Trips

The Deserts and Grasslands of Africa

Take a 40 minute educational virtual field trip to Africa. Discover the importance of the grasslands, learn about the people that live there and see the animals that call this area home. This amazing field trip is packed with information and geared towards 3rd-8th graders. Discover Africa in a whole new way!

Visit the Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. from home! Take a room-by-room self-guided tour of select exhibits and click on the camera icons for a close up and to find out all about it.

MetKids

This is a fun site for kids to discover more about the world of art! Visit a specific time period in history or continent of interest to start your journey of discovery. Kids will also love the collection of various videos that were made just for kids!

The Museo Galileo

This site is filled with a ton of information and videos for older kids about Galileo and his amazing discoveries.

Musee d’Orsay, Paris

Math

Prodigy – play.prodigygame.com

This is my children’s favorite math program! Prodigy partners with John Hopkins University to bring curriculum-aligned math content and it’s FREE! The cartoon graphics and interactive quests really make learning and practicing math a fun experience for children!

Khan Academy – www.khanacademy.org

This is an outstanding FREE educational program that teaches almost everything! Here students can learn math concepts for any grade level, all the way to high school levels! For older kids you can also learn Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Computer Programming, Economics and more! 

 

Reading

Squiggle Park – www.Squigglepark.com

This is a great FREE program to help children with their reading skills and reading comprehension. The colorful animation and fun games make reading really fun! Squiggle park is aimed at helping children ages 3 to 8+ with reading skills and Dreamscape (also within this site) concentrates more on reading comprehension and is for children aged 8 to 15+.

Discover a wealth of books on this FREE site where celebrated actors will read the book your child chooses aloud to them!

 

Science

Mystery Doug – mysterydoug.com

This is a great site for elementary school aged children that want to know more about science. Find science lessons, watch videos and find out answers to real student questions.

Discover games, videos, brain boosters and a lot of cool stuff on this FREE website for kids! Let your children learn all about different types of animals and explore the world from home.

History

History for Kids – www.historyforkids.net

The site History for kids is a great FREE website for kids to learn all about history in a really fun way!

Typing

Typing Club – www.typingclub.com

This is a great typing program and it’s FREE! Discover fun lessons that really teach kids how to type.

Coding

Hour of Code – hourofcode.com/us

This FREE program is a great way for your kids to start learning how to code.

Code Combat – codecombat.com

This is my kids’ favorite FREE coding site. On this site kids will learn to code through a game-based program where they get to type real code and see their characters in the game react in real time.

General

Free Rice – freerice.com

This is a great FREE website! Here your child can choose from categories such as Geography, Math, Languages, Science, Famous Paintings and more. Then they get to answer questions from that topic. What kid’s will love is that for every question they get right, the cash equivalent of 10 grains of rice are donated to the World Food Programme. My children love using this program, not only to learn new things, but also they get to help feed people who are hungry with every question the answer correct!
